Imagine being the person engaging with a business you like and the only thing you hear is crickets when you post something to them. The brand fix for this is you absolutely must respond to every comment from followers, including and especially anything negative. It’s all part of reputation management, which drives your digital presence in this day and age.
You produce lame-o content.
Video snoozefests, written content that anybody could write and all your competitors have already written, social media posts that nobody cares about, emails that get instantly deleted because the subject line bores the viewer to death before they even think about opening it.
Creative content development is a skill you should leave to the experts. Content across mediums has to work together to build and support your brand message and maintain tone and voice while also speaking to the needs of your customers and potential customers.
It’s critical that you have singular oversight of all your content marketing efforts. The brand fix for this may involve having someone in-house or hiring someone to provide digital marketing services.
You’re not inspired by your own brand.
Think about what grabs you when you’re checking email or you see a cool video or happen to scroll through on social and something catches your attention. There are some brands that are killing it—and some brands that should just be killed.
Now think about what you’re putting out into the world. Does it light you up? Do you get excited by your own content? Would you stop scrolling if it showed up in your feed? Ask yourself why or why not?
The brand fix for inspiration is: You have to feel it from within. And then allow creative expression to do the work of expressing your inspiration. Again, don’t leave the creative up to amateurs.
